Kenwood TM-V7 - Cross-Band Repeater With
Remote Control
- Set-up
UHF frequency to be used for
both remote control
and as your local input/output for the repeater;
- Use a frequency well out of the way of ‘normal’ operations
(I used 439.950 MHz for testing)
- Ensure you set UHF for LOW
power output
- Enable CTCSS
and select a CTCSS frequency
(I used 230.5)
- Set-up
the VHF frequency – this is the
one ‘everyone else’ will use,
i.e.; the main net frequency;
- Select appropriate frequency and power level for the main net operations
(I used 145.2 MHz and 25W)
- Set-up
and enable remote control;
- Press the UHF band button to
set the PTT onto UHF
(TM-V7 display should confirm
this)
- Press the CTRL button
(between the two band buttons)
to set CTRL on the VHF (check
display confirms this)
- Power off the rig
- Press and HOLD the CTRL button then power-on the rig
- The DT prompt should now be
seen to be flashing
(on the UHF side of the TM-V7
display)
- The rig is now in remote control standby
mode
- Un-plug the mic’
on the TM-V7 !!!!!
- When the TM-V7 keys-up for repeater, the mic’
becomes live.
This leads to horrendous feed-back
if you have the VHF/UHF
volume up for monitoring the TM-V7
traffic
- Set-up
your hand-held;
- On UHF, match the frequency being used (439.950)
- Enable CTCSS
and use the same ctcss frequency as previously
set on the TM-V7 rig (230.5)
- Set appropriate power-level
This should be as low as possible - you only want comms to the TM-V7
- To
enable remote control;
- On the hand-held, key-up and enter the DTMF
tones: A 0 0 0 #
- The TM-V7 should beep and the DT
indicator should now be on steady
- To
exit remote control mode;
- On the hand-held, key-up and enter the DTMF
tones; A #
- The TM-V7 should beep and the DT
indicator should now be flashing
- To
enable the repeater;
- Use step 5 to enable remote
control
- On the hand-held, key-up and enter the DTMF
tones; C A #
- The repeater should now be enabled
- Note that only the C actually
enables the repeater,
the A# tells the TM-V7 to exit
back to remote standby
- You should now be able to use the hand-held on UHF
and see the TM-V7 cross-band
to/from VHF
- To
disable the repeater;
- Use step 6 to disable remote
control
- On the hand-held, key-up and enter the DTMF
tones; D A #
- The repeater should now be disabled
- Note that only the D actually
disables the repeater,
the A# tells the TM-V7 to exit
back to remote standby
- You should now be able to use the hand-held on UHF
and the TM-V7 will not cross-band
to/from VHF
